Memorial Day gives us the chance to pause and pay tribute to the many men and women who have valiantly laid their lives down for the protection of freedom. It is also the unofficial kickoff to summer. If you’ve ever been to a Memorial Day celebration, then you know how much fun they can be. This year, I’m sharing a few tips so that you can host your own party.
Picnics and BBQs are the most popular for casual gatherings, but if you would like to honor a specific soldier, then a formal dinner party is a better option. If you choose and outdoor venue, make sure you have a rain date picked out or a plan B indoor venue booked.
Decorating for your Memorial Day party will be a breeze. Red, white, and blue party supplies are in abundance at this time of year. If you are on a tight budget, make sure to check out your local dollar store for decorations and paper goods.
Now that your venue is decorated, it’s time to select your menu. Hot dogs and hamburgers are staples at casual Memorial Day celebrations. For more formal events try something like beef tenderloin and stuffed mushrooms. A flag cake like the one pictured above is the perfect end to any meal. For patriotic drink recipes, visit AllRecipes. You can even come up with a signature drink and name it in honor of your loved one.
Keeping your guests fed is great, but you also want to keep them entertained. A DJ or live band will add a special touch to an outdoor party. A solo singer or musician will liven up a formal event. If your guests list includes families with children think of having a face painter or balloon artist to keep them occupied.
Whether you choose to celebrate with a casual backyard gathering or will honor a soldier with a formal dinner, these tips are sure to help you master the Memorial Day celebration.
